I once dumped a slurpy on my fuel pump in order to get home. Here in the hot part of the USA, vapor locks cause the same symptoms. After stopping for a slurpy, the car ran like it was out of gas. Dum

When you suspect carb troubles, check out the electrical system! Start with cleaning the terminals on the distributor (take the nuts off, clean both sides of the little brass eyelet with fine emery

If the "boost" came shortly after leaving work ( a mile or so ) I would guess fuel pump problems more than vapor lock. If the car starts, it may be running off the float bowls until the pump catches

I had a lot of similar problems shortly after I got my '70 1600. Skipping, hesitation, stumbling, even complete cutout. I traced it all to the distributor. Much of it due to the breaker plate under

I don't think that humidity has much to do with it except to the extent that it air density and therefore (possibly?) air pressure. I'm not certain how significant that effect might be. A combination
