Along the same lines, why are eight point sockets no longer available? I have been looking for a 1/4 inch drive 1/4 inch eight point for the last several years. I don't see them in the Mac or Snap-on

Sears carries them, just not in 1/4 inch drive. I stumbled on one of their 500 piece sets being gotten rid of cheap last year and it included a set of 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive 8 point sockets. - Tw Sea

My guess would be that with the larger sizes, there is a larger amount of material that would need to be moved to round the edges, so there isn't as much need for a six point socket. Think of it this

They're still available at Sears, at least. I haven't seen them in 1/4" drive, but Sears has 8 point sockets in 3/8" drive. ...and the 7/16" eight points are good for the engine and tranny oil drain

Once again, from the 'bible' (McMaster Carr) 1/4" drive 8 point 1/4" socket is P/N 5543A62 @$3.25 1/4" drive 4 point 1/4" socket is P/N 5543A13 @$3.15 they also have 6 point sockets in 1/2" drive up

I asked Friday about 1/4 inch drive 1/4 inch 8 point sockets. It must just be the particular Sears/Home Depot stores that I go to that don't carry them. I do have a Sears tool catalog, and didn't see
