While repacking the rear bearings and changing the shocks, I noticed the dirt/oil accumulation on the differential. I'm guessing the mechanic who got her running for me forgot to change the gear lube

I've always referred to that tool as a sump gun. I found that it can be a pain to pull gear lube into it because the lube is so thick. If you don't pull slowly air leaks past the piston seal. The gun

And make sure the car is level when filling the diff. If it's boosted by the rear too much lube will be in the diff causing it to possibly leak out the seals. I use concrete blocks and jack stands fo
