As with most things, it's relative. In this case, I meant relative to 'ordinary' automotive battery chargers which are not voltage regulated at all. For example, I have an ordinary "10/30/50" charger

I believe that Optima batteries are gel cell type. My boat batteries are also gel cells and they are quite popular on aircraft as well for several reasons that would be of little interest to this gro
