- Some calipers are different widths and don't need spacers, while others do. I ran into the same thing when I installed new calipers on my '66. Check out hardware stores for the right size shim washer

- I just removed some calipers from a parts car. One side had shims and the other did not. I recall finding shims on another car from which I removed calipers. I don't know if they are factory or not,
