I've seen stock cabinets that are as low as 32 in. with a countertop, ours are 36 which is more typical these days. You want a height that allows you (and your significant other) to work comfortably

Call around your local grave marker or "monument" shops. They cut and polish lots of stone. A flat piece without lettering or artwork is what you'd want, or they might dress the back side of a marker

A kitchen counter is typically 36" high. A bar is usually about 42" high (this varies). Stools are 24"-30" high for kitchen counters and 30"-36" high for bar counters. I know this because I just star
