I unwrapped, inspected/repaired, and re-wrapped my harness with Scotch 33 electrical tape. That stuff is bullet proof to everything but solvents. I used your standard "409" household cleaner on a rag

Truth be told, I would be very hesitant to take the harnesses apart. Surface dirt isn't going to matter to the electrons :-), and if the insulation is brittle you'll probably end up damaging the wir
