I am going to convert my 1971 TR6 to wire wheels. I am told the studs for these are shorter and I will therefore need to change to shorter studs. How difficult will it be to remove the existing studs

Not hard at all but can be expensive if buying all new stuff. See if one of your local bone yards has good used studs and nuts. I converted going the other way, from wires to Panasports. The fronts.

Not hard at all, as Jerry says. Another alternative (recommended by the factory at least for the earlier cars) is to cut off the excess stud length. Just install the WW adapter and special nuts, the

I understand that there are spacers available that you can place between the wire wheel hub and the bearing hub. They take up the space of the longer steel wheel studs and you can then switch between

Jerry details some really good methods above. I replaced all 4 spline adapters and installed all new WW nuts front and back this past Friday in the heat and humidity of Philly. The fronts are a joke

I've not had a problem with my used studs, but as Randall says it's a safety part. Let your conscience be your guide. Also, I've never had someone use an impact wrench on them either. Check them to f

Funny how those with steel/aluminium wheels want wires and those of us with wires want aluminum wheels. I am in the category of changing to Superlites (from wires) and this spacer idea sounds good to

Spacers won't help you, you need longer studs for non-wire wheels. Try at your local "custom wheel" shop, they should have them. There was on my Stag, but it might be a bit different than the IRS TR

Hi George, I'm surprised the spacers only add 1/4". I believe the steel wheel studs on a TR250/TR6 are 5/8" longer than the wire wheel studs. Is there a smaller difference in length between the steel

The 5/8" was strictly from memory so I'm probably wrong and hope that I am. At only 1/4" difference it would seem spacers are the way to go, especially for cars that are not driven much and if I plan
