Not only will it work, but that is exactly the setup on my car except that for the base. A friend machined bases from aluminum and radiused the inlet. He also machined two discs out of the same mate

It's not just the boxes...it's the elements themselves. Also note...the boxes actually help in the velocity of the air entering the carbs. That is to say...you'll notice the air intake on the box is

Just fabbed a mock-up of the open filters using WIX filters without the cans. Really seems a little more lively on the back roads here. Gonna keep playing. Don't think it can hurt anything, can it? L
