Thanks to all who threw in their 2 cents worth regarding my leaky water pump during the maiden voyage in my '53 TD. The voyage amounted to a total of about 50 feet! At least I've owned LBC's long eno

Are you sure that isn't the weep hole made to ensure water drains off between the seal and the first bearing. There is a hole there that's suppose to drain off the water before it gets to the bearin

That hole is supposed to be there. It's purpose is to allow coolant that gets past the seal to drip out the bottom of the pump rather than get into the bearings. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. TC Cub Hill, Ma

Something to keep in mind about the Phil Marino conversion -- It's a system conversion, i.e., pump and pulley. Your pulley will no longer be useable with a stock water pump, nor can the pump be used

Just to clarify. The Marino pump conversion requires a new water pump pulley but do you use the same belt as before? What is different about the stock pulley and the Marino conversion? John Quilter B

Phil Marino modifies your pulley by drilling it to accept the tapered shaft. The same wide belt is used. He removes the grease nipple and inserts a plug as the new bearings are "lubed for life". Eve

Phil machines a matching taper into the water pump pulley. If you were to put the pulley onto a stock water pump it would flop around. I believe his technique was written up in TSO a few years ago. L

Hi, Bob. Believe it or not, you are one of only 2 to respond to my query. Thanks. Actually, I had not done the breakin by running the new pump while dry first. I had thought that it was not necessary

Bill, the 'break-in' procedure for the water pump seal is preferably done before the pump is installed by spinning the pump for a half minute or so using a drill. Bud Krueger /// unsubscribe/change a

The reason for the "dry before filling with coolant" is that all antifreezes and rust preventives for adding to the water contain a "water pump lubricant." As only the seal is exposed to the coolants
