I am going to replace the valve cover gasket on my 71B. I dimly recall advice to soak the gasket in water before installing it. Any ideas on time, temperature or any other conditions to assure a leak

No, don't use Permatex on the valve cover gasket, it is not needed and will only glob out from underneath making the motor look like it had been in a two-bit shop. Use a cork gasket and make sure you
