I'm replacing a U20 temp sender. My memory fails me. Before I disassemble things, is the gland nut that holds the sensor in place internal to the thermostat spacer (i.e. in the coolant path)? TIA. -

No. There's a collar that is integral to the sending unit about halfway down it's length that bottoms out against a shoulder in the hole. The gland nut bottoms out against the backside of the collar.
