You can test the coil by using an Ohm meter. Connect the ohmmeter to the primary studs of the coil. Turn the meter to the 0-2M ohm scale for the primary winding and check reading then remove either

Ned, while it has not been a subject of posts since you bought your Healey, rotors fail more often than we would like. I had one break on the I-15 in Las Vegas and I carry several spares ever since.

It looks like the problem was the condenser. I replaced the points and disconnected the condenser (I didn't have a new condenser). The engine starts and runs roughly. Will that smooth out after I add

I just put in a new condenser and the engine is running smoothly again. Thanks to all who responded. But the problem that started this mess is still with me. I have installed a new alternator. Origin

Hi Ned, Yes - It sure should smooth out, you won't be getting much spark without it. Also if you run it very long without the condenser, the points will burn. Dave Russell BN2

Hi Ned, One or more bad diodes in the alternator is the usual cause of whine. It can put more than the usual load on the alternator also. It wouldn't hurt to have it checked. Dave Russell BN2

Do you have the right belt for the pulleys your using? (sitting in the v-groove right?) Is it tight enough, (slipping) or is it too tight? (loading the bearing) Mark
