Thanks for asking this question - I had wondered the same. I spoke to 6 owner recently whose car was original, and his had the lower rocker areas (below the chrome strip) done in black - sort of a ro

My '72's rockers are painted black w/ a textured or undercoat type finish. Looks about the same as the rear valance, but not sure my analysis would pass muster at a "Concours" event. ;) Bill '72 TR6

Yes the outer sills should be flat black. Most cars I have seen or have worked on are built up like this. The sills are painted the body color. Next they are sprayed with a textured undercoat. Then
