I checked three different dashs, and none of them seem to have the metal strip you are talking about. The lid hinge is secured directly to the fascia (lower lip of the opening) by 4 flat head screws

I have the cubby box on the outside of the fascia lip. From the top downwards the door fastening screws go thru the hinge, the fascia lip, and then the cubby box bottom. I use flat and lock washers
