The type of tube(s) should be on the label on the ballast, and other tubes won't work right. Shop light tubes aren't known for their longevity so if you can get some better ones that are compatible

My shop light (as generic as they come) takes two 40-watt el cheapo tubes. No bigger and no smaller. The suggestion to look on the ballast for the proper type of tube is a good one! Good luck! Carol

I bought 6 LITEWAY made in America lights this summer at the local lumber yard. $9 each. Have burned out the ballasts in 3 of them already. I don't recall anything about using "special" bulbs. Bob B
