Hi Bob, You have pretty much figured out the mystery. This wire is not connected on the end near the starter solenoid (for 1978 models). Some cars had this loose end snipped off, other were just coil

Maybe you and me should get together on this one! Before I bought my car, a DPO mounted a switch on the centre of the dash, and connected the horn to it, for some reason I never figured out. Either
