If it makes you feel any better, I did this over 25,000 miles ago to boost very low oil pressure and haven't had any problems since. Obviously a proper rebuild is the best solution, but I simply did

I didn't drop the crank, just loosened the main caps. I would remove one cap, then use a small screwdriver to ~carefully~ start the old top half out. Then you can shove the new top half in, making ve

It is not especially hard to replace the washers with the engine in the car, but that's probably not the cause of your knocking. You may need new rod bearings (also replaceable with the engine in the
