Do any of you put anything on radiator hoses before installing them? I am looking for a way to keep hoses from seizing to the fittings, for easier removal. Of course, I don't want them to be so well

For the past several years, I've been smearing the fitting with 'Teflon' pipe dope (from Home Depot) before installing the hose. Seems to work quite well at keeping the hose from seizing to the fitt

I've smeared a thin coat of silicone rubber on the inside of radiator and heater hoses in the area where the clamps will be and it works very well. Just be sure to not use too much so that you don't

I put some rubber lubricant in the ends of the hoses (no, not that kind of 'rubber'...). http://www.midwayautosupply.com/detailedproductdescription.asp?1208 Recently I saw some small packets of 'radi

I've always used Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket 3H for the last 30 some years. Never had a hose leak at the joint and never had a hard time pulling off a hose I installed. https://www.aircraft-spruc

I have always used Permatex #2 on my radiator hoses for the same reasons: It seals well and is soft enough to let me remove the hose easily. Doug Braun

I use little silicone grease if I remember, and have it handy. I have a set of Snap-On hose removal picks that make getting hoses off very easy. Stick the pick between the hose and the pipe, and work

I learned about the syl-glide stuff from a buddy who's a pro mechanic. He puts it on pretty much anything rubber that needs to stay conditioned, etc. Frankly, until you asked this question the other

Just a little heads up if you try to find a small tube of Permatex 3H, you won't find it. What you actually want is Permatex #3. The "H" is the size of the container, a can that will do many years of

It does for me. Takes years, but it does eventually harden to a rock-like consistency. The Teflon pipe dope seems to stay soft at least longer, although I've only been using it for 10 years or so. R
