Working from memory but there are three rears were available in earlier mustangs (pre 74). Ford 9 inch - generally with big block or special engines (Boss etc.) Ford 8 inch - Other 8 cylinders and mo

Also consider the Jeep Mailster. It has a 3:03 ratio, positraction, does NOT have to be narrowed, but it does have a 5 lug bolt pattern. I believe it's a Dana 44 rear axle. Not sure. Jim
