There is a spec for the free length of the valve spring in the Bentley book. Don't have it handy now, but let me know if you need it and I'll send it. Anyway, I measured my old spring and it was too

The new one is most likely longer because it is the correct length. These springs get weaker (and shorter) over time. It is a good idea to replace them at rebuild time. Irv Korey 74 TR6 CF22767U 63 T

Actually, the heavy duty Moss unit has thicker wire... I don't recall the coil count, but I do recall the spring working out to 15 or 20% "stiffer" spring rate than stock. The H.D. Moss spring makes
