- Sounds like the overdrive relay. Two of the wires (black/purple & green/white I think ), should lead to the gearbox. Mine are routed down the back of the engine. Is there an O/D installed? David A. T

- Lots of interesting speculation so far but: The mystery component is a "lamp test" relay. It momentarily illuminates the brake warning lamp and EGR service lamp when you crank the starter. It is wire
