Very true. But you forgot the effects of the bypass valve sticking partially open. Low oil pressure at idle. No I still didn't get the dang guage installed.

How can it maintain the pressure against what would appear to be the same (Or lower due to thinner oil) system restrictions if it isn't pumping the same or greater volume? Heavy (20/50) oils are fine

I thought we were discussing oil pressure. Sorry But knowing what can and does go wrong can also help in troubleshooting. That dang bypass valve has stuck on me on one occaission.
