AFAIK, an ordinary wireless router or bridge should be able to do this. It just isn't the most common application. One example is the Netgear WGR614 http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateway

If you can't come up with an easy way to wire them together, I would recommend a cheap wireless router for the cable modem side and then some adapters for the other "half". I don't know why it is so

Thanks for all the advice I received on this question when I asked it back in October. I took the security advice to heart and got myself two used Linksys wired routers on fleabay for under $20 each.
