Wheels are defined by axles, not by tires. So a "duallie truck" (2 axles, 6 tires.) is a "2X-" Vehicle. The 2 ton military trucks (Deuces) have 3 axles (all driven) and 10 tires. They are 6X6's Inch

Yup, Tony and Phil are exactly correct, and I was wrong ... it's number of hubs, not number of wheels. For some reason, I had forgotten that the old Army 6x6 I used to drive had a second rear axle ..
