- I think this must be one of the first car's with the HIF type SU. For a starting point I would try an ABT needel in the car. The carb's are the same size, and will hopefully present the same specs. Y

- Sounds like the concensous is that the carbs are HIF4's. The only labelling on them shows: "AUD493R" on the small tags bolted to the dashpot, "PDC 1" cast on one of the sides of the body, and "SU Car

- The 2-4-6-8 represents the diamiter of the bore. Goes like this 2 = 1"1/4 4 = 1"1/2 6 = 1"3/4 8 = 2" on the HIF's there were also 44 = 44mm 66 = 66mm The SU's were made in these styles H Early 40-50'

- According to the Haynes carb book those carbs were used on the 1972 MGB mk2 (USA) and they are indeed HIF4

- AUD493 carbs (the R stands for rear) were standard on a 1972 MGB MkII (USA) -- 1798 cc engine. The standard needle was CUD 1018, piston springs AUC 4387 and WZX 1454/55 jets. Best regards, Ed Hamilt
