Hi all - I have a '79 1500 with overdrive. I was driving home today from work, running just over 3000 at about 65 mph, cruising very nicely. All of a sudden the car began bucking. As I was pulling of

Mark, I was surprised to not see an answer to this one (maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough?) but in case you're still looking for it, yes you do need to pull the tunnel, once you do the filler p

Actually I have put fluid in both of my spits and my GT6 without removing the tunnel. It is not easy and you definitely need to get the car up on stands or a lift, but it can be done. Sam

It is as easy as this... Car up on ramps......the filler plug is accessible from under the car. (Just!) ....remove the plug.....insert a piece of poly tube into the hole and route it into the engine

Problem -- Spitfires and ramps don't mix. You'll scrape the front or rear valance. Instead, jack up the car an equal amount in the front and rear; put on jack stands. Slide under with your gear oil (

Ramps with extensions for low ground clearance cars exist - I have a set and my Mk3 with lowered suspension goes up on them (and back down!) with no problem. I have seen them in the Griot's Garage ca

The drain plug can be reached from underneath if you jack the front of the car (on jackstands of course). It helps to have small hands. My girlfriend was nice enough to do it for me on one occasion.

I stand corrected. I must have received faulty information from someone else. I've avoided ramps for this reason and just use jack stands. No complaints. Best wishes, Jeff in San Diego '67 RHD Spitfi

You can get 8-point sockets that will fit a square plug - I got some from Sears and better auto parts stores probably would have them too. They can even work on plugs that have been rounded off to a

A friend of mine has a set of sockets which drive the edges of the bolt, not the corners like most do. They look like standard sockets, except that the "flat" edges have a faily shallow curve inwards
