i know GM had a problen for years with "heat soak" causing the starter solenoid to fail when extremly hot. the repair was to install a ford type solenoid in GM trucks(mostly). i have not done one of

that year chev came out with a heat shield..usually when somebody works on the starter they leave the heat shield off.. its to much bother to reinstall.. try any kind of heat shield and it should wor

you are correct about the heat shield. it was a very thin aluminum piece with about 1/4" thick of some insulation (fiberglass like stuff) adhered to the back side and it was literally clipped to the

you are correct about the GM over the counter "shorter" plunger spring. i have 2 of the factory springs here. it was a seperate part number piece i got when i last worked as a parts man. last i knew
