What is the origins of the generic term "FIA (this, that or the other)", as in "FIA Cobra", "FIA head", "FIA chassis", etc.? Were these performance parts that met homoligation numbers? - RWM, '69 200

The number could be anything from 20 (very unusual) but mostly 500, 1000 or 5000 in a 12 month period, depending on classification. SCCA and IMSA made up their own rules. Maybe if Nissan had made 500
