Ray: Nick is connecting to a dryer plug (probably 40 amps) and that plug MUST have a neutral. The reason is that control and auxilliary circuits often use 110 volts, even on a 220 volt machine. For e

For what it's worth, my compressor has a diagram on the inside of the junction box cover showing how to wire it for 220 or 110 -- it even came with a 220 *and* 110 cable. Not bad for a garage-sale-s
