I use a Carchip E/X (http://www.carchip.com) It's cheap, <<$500. My version uses a serial port, but USB adapters might work or maybe they have a cable or something that makes it work, I haven't tried

I use one by AutoEnginuity. http://www.autoenginuity.com/ They have versions for PC as well as Palm and Pocket PC. I've been using the Palm version with good results so far.

They would work with any car that has OBD-II (as long as you get a universal scanner of the one that speaks the proper protocol). However, OBD-II is a US emissions requirement, and it's not required
