You'll need a piece of 3/16 or thicker plex, large enough to cover the combustion chamber. Dril a 1/4" hole, centered. Rotate the cam by hand ( be sure its lubed, and a piece of wood as a lever help

I've never done this, but I've heard you can do this with modeling clay as well. With valves closed, fill the chamber with clay until level. Remove clay and place in a graduated cylinder or whatever

That's a good point about taking it to a machine shop-wonder how much that would cost. I do have burettes and syringes at home so I might have the needed equipment on hand. Now won't adding a thicker

Hi Craig, I think that might give you a good rough estimate but I don't think it would be super exact. What if there had been combustion chamber work done? I have been told that there are some roadst

Hi Mark, Okay I'm following you except where do I smear the Vaseline exactly? I smear the Vaseline on the valve seats when the valves are up yes? Just enough to seal the valve but not gook up the com

Yep volume is volume but I wonder how accurate the modeling clay method would be.?? I have also heard about using wax poured into the cylinder. I don't know how anal I need to be about this but its p

That works- just make sure you have a really good straightedge to smooth the and then dunk the lump of clay into water and measure the relative displacement. As you say, displacement IS displacement.

Just take the rocker arms out before you do anything else and all the valves will be closed. The likelihood that the head has had some machine work done in the chamber is pretty small unless you boug

I think that the less stuff I remove from the head the less there is a chance of me screwing something up. I just have to decide if I'm less likely to screw up if I just remove the rocker arms or if

It's really not hard to pop the rockers out and put them back in. Probably easier than turning the cam on the workbench with all the spring tension on it. Just run the adjusters all the way down into
