Use 70/30 argon/CO2 with .023 wire. If you can back the joint up with copper sheet it would help considerably. Use short welds of 1/4 inch and take plenty of time. Alan Schultz

Whatever method you use get plenty of test material to practice on. Making butt welds on 18 or 20 gauge sheet is not easy. The fitup clamps shown in another reply would deffinately help. -- Tim Davis
