You don't absolutely have to use a smaller pulley (I didn't), but it does improve charging at idle, and may make it possible to use a stock fan belt. I don't know of a comprehensive list anywhere. T

I'm in the process of putting on a new alternator. What is the best way to get the pulley off of the old one?? I started to stick a screw driver in the fins to hold them still as I torqued on the nut

What timing. I did it only last night. It shouldn't be torqued THAT tight. My method was to bite down on a rag and grip the bugger (read "fins") whilst my neighbor cracked the nut. It wasn't too bad.

I just put the pulley into a large bench vise and tighten, then use a copper hammer to knock the pulley off of the shaft. Those concerned with smashing the threads could use a gear puller to do the s
