- The valve bypasses the wather through the heater core. The water through (or under) the intake manifold still flows. So, yes, it is a "summer/winter" switch, but I don't use it myself, even here in T

- It shuts off water to the heater. If you don't want yours, I'd be interested in buying it. On reinstalling my engine last year I bent and broke the coppere tube. My fix was a hose clamp and short pie
