IF you are absolutely sure you don't need to smog the car and If you don't want to change the trans, you are limited to carb and intake I would suggest a performer or rpm, and an edelbrock 1406 carb

You will be fine, dropping the egr, air pump etc will not any appreciable difference. The only reason the trans is mentioned is that when you add more performance you tend to loose a bit of low end t

the problem with the "P" heads is the exhaust doesn't line up properly (bolt holes are raised about 3/8") and a custom set of headers will be required. I don't know how much better the "P" head flows
