By side to side play are you talking about the shaft sliding in and out? If so, that shouldn't be a problem. That just means that there is clearance between the bore of the throat and the butterfly.

Hello all and Brian, I'll put on my vender hat now and say that I can rebush throttle shafts for you. To get the directions correct assume the carbs are still on the car. If the shafts move .001 inch

Check out Apple Hydraulics at http://www.applehydraulics.com/ They did mine for half of what Z-Therapy wanted. Apple uses the original shaft and replaces bushings and seals. Did a great job on 2K SU'

Thank you to all for the replies! I got several promising leads on how to deal with the throttle shaft bushings. The only thing I am not entirely sure of is if they actually need to be replaced yet.
