I think they make those little sleeves that you 'slip' over the worn part of the axle similar to the sleeves you put on harmonic balancers. Try NAPA or FLAPS. Terry Stellman 1949 3600 Missouri City,

Go to an industrial bearing house and ask for a speedy sleeve with the same ID as the axle OD. This puts a brand new surface on the gouged face of the axle and allows the seal to ride on fresh metal.
