Early 6 cyl. and V8 were different the bolt pattern to engine was different it was not until the 230 6 cyl. in 63 that the bolt pattern was the same as for the 3 seed and 4 speed the hole in the bell

Robert, I am sure you will find the wide bolt pattern goes back to 1954. BTW one of the scarcest to find was the "54 truck 3 speed which had the wide bolt pattern and hooked to a closed driveline, Th
