I'm no expert here, but I think what you'll be missing is the sound of the compressor and the noise of the external fan unit. I'm not sure it's worth the cost difference for a garage application, but

As long as the unit has interior access in the right place, exterior access in the right place, and is tilted so the water runs outside, I don't see the problem. They did this at a small machine shop
