Adrian Check and lubricate the pivot pin (bolt) between the brake and clutch pedal. Also check that the return spring is in place. Everybody should squirt a bit of oil on their pedal pivots annually.

White smoke may be water/coolant. Is it steam, does it disapate quickly. You can smell coolant burning. If it hangs around like a fog, it may be oil. I thin 90 % of your problems are 7 year old gas.
