the solenoid can be accessed from inside the car once the tunnel is taken off. You really can't do it from underneath. It would sit right next to the drivers knee, right in front of the tranny mount.

Joe, I guess that depends on the type of overdrive. for a J-type it is on the left side of the tranny and sits right above the mounting plate in front of the tranny mount, hence it cannot be reached

Mine does that as well, I believe the reason it does that is to build up fluid pressure to move the valves, or something. I guess the severity that it does it would determine if it is supposed to do

Atwell, I think I agree with you that it is unnecessary to run the fan after turning off the engine. But if you really wanted to do it I would connect it to the sensor on top of the radiator. That is
