Has anyone recently converted a TR-3 with disk wheels to wire wheels? I am trying to get a handle on what the costs might be and just how much of the wheel/axle assembly whould have to be replaced. A

The conversion from "disk" or steel wheels to wire wheels on a TR-3 is fairly simple. The wheel adapters just bolt onto the wheel studs, and the wire wheels slide on. At the most, you will need to s

Jack It is best to start out with new Dayton brand wire wheels, and new hubs and new lug nuts. I started out with "good condition" used that gave me nothing but problems. The splines wear if the knoc

Is that why the splines stripped on my MGBGT about 3 months after I purchased it? The knockoffs were on the correct side but they were loose. They didn't self tighten. There is not enough leverage on

Before this debate overheats, I'd like to raise a question relative to the original thread: My question? Did the early (Lockheed brakes) TRs use the same sort of adaptor for wire wheels, or did they

Because centrifugal force acts radially, it will NOT tighten the nuts as you roll. I remember reading a long series of correspondence on this subject in an English engineering magazine, I believe, in

Fellow Motorheads, This is a `heads up' to all who wish to convert from disc to wire wheels: The big difference is, with discs, you do the final tightening of the nuts after the car is down off the j

You can not completely tighten the front knockoffs with the wheel off the geround unless you have someone inside holding the brakes. Also, in the rear the force of the pounding gets transmitter along

I looked at my TR3 today, and interestingly enought, the nuts are designed to tighten under acceleration torque, not braking. The designers must have felt we TR nuts (if you'll pardon the pun) were m
