- Maybe this is too obvious an answer but the stock distributor only fits in one way. The slot in the pedestal base is slightly offset so you can't even put it in 180 * off. I usually rotate the rotor

- I had the same with my TR3, it was as simple as the throttle stops were not properly sync'd. One was down just a little too far and was holdind the other carb open. Solution is the disengage the carb
