I would appreciate suggestions for the best places to look for original paint remnants in a Tiger. Not only would I like to be successful finding a remnant but I'm also hoping to avoid disturbing pan

That mostly depends on how thorough any re-painting done previously was. You should look inside the heater box or up under the dash. Factory paint jobs went under the VIN plate and not under the JAL
