You have indeed found the easy way to remove the springs. Be very careful when extending the arms back to release the springs however, if you go too far it is easy to put a dent in the top of the rea

John's right. Mark the hinge position on the boot lid. Then have some hold the lid open while you remove the 4 bolt. Rotate the boot support and the tension is relieved from the spring. Piece of cake
