. when we got to Texas the front passengers side had broken a stud. pull in to my driveway and look at the wheel and shocked to see two studs missing. Two side by side not opposed what's up with that

My racer has been fitted with 7/16" studs. No problems with the wheels in racing, so for street use it will be OK for sure. I read that the "standard" for racing is to go to 5/8" studs, but the few

Fatigue, rust, british steel... either way you need to replace them. If you are concerned and others look suspicious the change them all. Usually a good shot with a heavy hammer will pop the old ones
