What about switching the right front wheel with the left front to see if the whistle moves to the other side of the car? If so, then at least you know that it's coming from the wheel.

I have always been told never to bleed a clutch when the engine is out of the car because you need the back pressure from the pressure plate to prevent too much fluid from accummulating in the slave

If the solenoid is making a clicking sound, then it is probably okay, as that clicking sound is the metal piece moving back and forth (like it is supposed to) when a current is applied to the winding
