I don't know how they could deter theft. A 4lb lead hammer would get 'em off sharpened or not. The edges weren't sharpened so much as the end points were. All I know is that they looked UGLY.

The way I heard it the wings on knock offs were outlawed in US of A for a while because of the James Bond movie because congress didn't want pedestrians getting hurt. It sounds good, and quite approp
