I believe that the ground is for the internal lights as well as the voltage sabalizer which is on the back of the speed and allows the fuel and temp guage to work properly. Chris DeStaffany 1975 spit

That's right, if you don't connect the ground to the gauge, both the temp. and fuel gauges will read about 1/4 to 1/3 too high... if it's loose, they'll read erratically, and if it's tight, they'll w
